So in this video we're going to be talking about the three phases of gastric digestion.

And here on the right, i've drawn out a simplified version of the digestive system that starts at the mouth, then has the esophagus, goes to the stomach, and eventually ends up in the intestines.

So the first phase of gastric digestion is going to be the cephalic phase.

And in this phase, what's going to happen is either the thought or the taste of food in your mouth is going to cause increased secretion from the gastric pits in your stomach and it's also going to cause your stomach to start churning, preparing for the incoming food that it's expecting.

In the next phase, which is the gastric phase, this is going to occur when the food actually goes into the stomach and it's going to cause the stomach to produce gastrin, pepsin, and hcl to help with digestion...
