Look at this picture of a trilobite. Life in the ocean once involved these animals, but it no longer does. What is the likely reason that these animals became extinct? They were no longer the only species in the ocean. Something changed that caused them to be unsuccessful in their environment. The population was depleted when they became a food source for humans. Interspecies mating changed their genetic makeup.
