The endocrine disruptor I chose to focus on is atrazine. Atrazine is a herbicide used to control grasses and weeds before they grow around crops. Pesticide products containing atrazine are used on many agricultural crops but most commonly on corn. The human body can be exposed to atrazine by eating/drinking or inhaling it. Being exposed to small amounts of atrazine will most likely not affect humans. On the other hand, people exposed to large amounts of atrazine were at higher risk of kidney failure than those who weren't. Atrazine in large amounts and long-term exposure can interfere with sex hormones causing decreased testosterone in males and irregular menstrual cycles in women. Short-term, minimal exposure to atrazine should not have major or noticeable effects on the human body.
