Hi everybody.
00:07
So today we're going to be going over problem number two in chapter seven memory.
00:16
And essentially this question is testing our knowledge of a phenomenon known as interference.
00:26
So interference is a way that scientists have come to explain forgetting and specifically how forgetting even occurs in our long -term memory sometimes.
00:36
And essentially, what interference refers to is that forgetting actually can occur because different memories interfere and actually disrupt the encoding and even the retrieval of one another.
00:53
So, for example, you can have memory a competing with the encoding of memory b and vice versa.
01:00
And this is actually very common, especially when the memories are very, very similar.
01:06
So i'm going to sum that up and write that down here.
01:10
So i'll write define.
01:16
So when memories disrupt the encoding slash retrieval of one another.
01:43
And like i said, this occurs in long -term memory, and this will.
01:47
Leads to forgetting or recalling an inaccurate memory.
01:52
So there is actually different types of interference.
01:55
So i'll write them down here.
01:58
There is proactive interference.
02:08
And this is when previously learned memories affect the retrieval and also the acquisition of new memories that we're trying to make...
