The coronary artery follows the sulcus around the heart. It gives rise to marginal arteries, which deliver blood to the anterior wall of the ventricle. Then it continues to the posterior surface, where it feeds into the coronary sinus. The coronary artery runs posterior to the heart and then branches into the circumflex artery, which follows the sulcus and delivers blood to the posterior walls of both ventricles. It also branches into the anterior interventricular artery, which follows the sulcus and delivers blood to the anterior walls of both ventricles. Smaller branches of coronary arteries deliver blood to capillaries within the myocardium.
