The problem we're going to solve today involves the concept of inequalities in two triangles.
00:08
So the problem states that you and your friend leave on different flights from the same airport.
00:13
Determine which flight is further from the airport.
00:17
And so here i want to give a useful tip, which is that if you are solving a problem that involves geometry, it's always a good idea to draw out your problem and helps with visualizing and finding relationships within shapes.
00:37
So let's say i start at point a, and according to the problem statement, it says that my flight traveled 100 miles towards the west, and then it changed direction by 20 degrees towards the north, and traveled another 50 miles.
01:04
My friend's flight traveled 100 miles north, and then changed direction by 30 degrees towards the east, and also traveled.
01:16
50 miles.
01:20
And so now i'm going to connect these two lines and these two lines and i have two triangles.
01:29
And so i'm going to name this one a, b, c and this one a, d, e.
01:38
So the next thing we want to do is find the angles a -d -e and a -b -c.
01:43
This will help us determine whether e -a is longer than a .e.
01:52
A .c.
01:54
Or the other way around...
