Does the period depend on mass of the simple pendulum or not? Justify.
Added by Justin C.
Step 1
Step 1: Recall the formula for the period \( T \) of a simple pendulum, which is given by \[ T = 2\pi \sqrt{\frac{l}{g}} \] where \( l \) is the length of the pendulum and \( g \) is the acceleration due to gravity. Show more…

Does the period of a pendulum depend on the mass of the bob? On the length of the string?
The period of a simple pendulum is a function of the length of the pendulum and the gravitational field. Describe an experiment you could perform to demonstrate that the mass at the end of the pendulum does not affect the period, the maximum amplitude – i.e. how far you pull it back before releasing it – does not affect the period, and finally that the length of the pendulum does affect its period. Identify any physical quantities that you will measure directly or calculate.
