ELECTRIC GUITAR
An electric guitar outputs signals generated by steel strings vibrating over magnetized poles wrapped by wire (called a "pickup"). The steel strings polarize to varying extent as they change position above the magnetized poles, producing a varying magnetic field in the process which generates an induced EMF in the pickup's coil. The current generated in the pickup is filtered through volume- and tone-controlling networks in the guitar itself, then passed through a cable to an amplifier which scales these tiny induced signals into much larger amplitudes.
Consider the simplified model of the electric guitar shown in the circuit below. Suppose that the pickup inductance is 5.8H and the pickup resistance is 11.9kOmega , the volume control resistances are 243kOmega (top) and 73kOmega (bottom), the tone control resistance is 142kOmega and the tone control capacitance is 46nF, the cable resistance is 1.8Omega and the cable capacitance is 597pF, and the amplifier resistance is 26MOmega .
