To say that species are more closely related to one another than to other species is to say that they have a more recent common ancestor than they do with other species. Additionally, it implies that they live in the same area, although it does not necessarily mean that they live there permanently. Furthermore, these closely related species tend to have a more similar appearance compared to other species.
