Lipids are transported in the blood in complexes with proteins. These water-soluble complexes are called lipoproteins. Complete the sentences by selecting the lipoprotein that transports each lipid. Chylomicrons transport dietary lipids from the small intestine. VLDLs transport triacylglycerols (triglycerides) from the liver to fat storage cells. Chapter 3 discusses the four major macromolecule groups. Let's see the molecules in action and analyze their characteristics to see why they are able to assume a certain role: Lipoproteins are found in the blood of mammals, and they are made of lipids and proteins, as their name suggests. They move cholesterol, fatty acids, and triglycerides from one place to another. We know that lipids are insoluble in water. Why are they insoluble in water? Which of these: fats, phospholipids, or steroids would you predict would be on the outside of a lipoprotein? (This area would be in contact with the blood fluids)
