For the essay, you must answer the following questions: Sean and Denise come to your office complaining that their six-year-old son Bradley shows signs of being both belligerent and depressed. They also say that he engages in antisocial behaviors (relative to his age). When you ask them some questions as part of your assessment, you realize that each parent differs in parenting style: Sean is authoritarian, and Denise is permissive. After the session, you have decided that you will put into writing information about parenting styles that you think will help them. In your writing, you will cover the following topics: - What each parenting style is - authoritarian, authoritative, permissive, and uninvolved - and how that affects the way parents raise their children. - What the short-term and long-term consequences are for each style. - The effects of growing up with parents who constantly disagree with each other. - What these parents can do to improve their (and their son's) situation. - What these parents can do to encourage empathy and prosocial behavior in their son.

Theory Paper Assignment: CDEV / PSY 104 Due Nov 18 Our text delves into a number of different theories that provide a foundation from which we can view an individual's physical, cognitive, and social/emotional development. Although coming from different perspectives, each theory allows us to interpret, predict, and shape behavior. It is critical to keep in mind that scientific knowledge, like human development, is not stagnant, but rather continues to evolve in response to research and social context. Therefore, in light of new discoveries, the original precepts of the established theories of human development are subject to continuous review and reassessment. (1) In this assignment, you will be providing an overview of the central terms/concepts of a major developmental theory. First, you are to provide a general overview of your theory, utilizing specific terms and concepts. So this will be from your research, explaining the theory and its central concepts and components. Following the overview of the theory, and within the framework of the theory, you will focus on the scenario and address: - What are the central developmental issues/needs of the child? - What factors in the home environment are motivating/influencing behaviors of the family members? - What predictions can be made regarding the child's future development? - How is the past current family environment likely to affect the child in later years? You will want to be specific about linking aspects of the theory to the scenario, and you will want to support your application with sources. You will be required to use 2 professional sources in addition to your textbook. The source must be from a professional journal or text, book, magazine, or newspaper. Sources must be referenced within the body of your paper and organized in a reference page using APA style.
