Cell cycle here which has four overall stages and then some substages within but starting with our cell cycle here the longest stage that we can see is going to be interface which comprises g1 s and g2 so if we look at our diagram over here we have those which is where the cell spends a majority of its time before it goes into mitosis here in g1.

So that is where all the cell contents except the chromosomes are duplicated.

Just making sure it has all of the needed organelles and parts so that when it splits, it has identical parts for both of those cells.

Then we get into the s stage, which is here, which is where the chromosomes themselves are duplicated, and the dna is synthesized so that there's two copies of each chromosome, so that when they split, again, they can have identical parts, and again, there are checkpoints in between each of these stages to make sure before it moves on that all of the necessary components are there.

And then finally, the cell moves into this g2 stage, and that is where, again, the cell is just double -checking, making sure all of the chromosomes are duplicated, there's no errors, any needed repairs that need to happen...
