What do the authors of the new study consider to be the "fatal flaw" in Bateson's original work? The mutations he used were dominant. Flies that had 2 mutations were much less likely to reach adulthood. Small eyed male flies were more appealing to female flies than wild-type. Mutations were only passed through the mother and not the father. Curly winged flies were more easily able to mate.
