A Look at the Affilited Rligious in America. A simple question to begin with is this, which religions do Americans practice today? The answer is that we're mostly Christian with some religiously unaffiliated which is also divided into 3 groups, Christian, unafiliated, and all the other religions. 3 out of 4 Americans afiliate themselves with chrisitianity, 1 in 6 is religiously unaffiliated, and 1 in 13 practices another religion. As such, the U.S.A. is still very much a country of Christians. Among Christians about 2/3 are protestant and 1/3 catholic. Among protestants, about 1/2 are evanelicals. That means about 1/4 of americans are evangelical christians. Among the unaffiliated, one about 1/3 of them define themselves as agnostic or atheist. The remainder has some mix of spiritual or religious beliefs. Among other religions, there are some that have roots elsewhere in the world, such as; Judaism, Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism. Also, have home grown versions of other religions, such as; Mormons, Jehovah Witnesses. While Ameican has many non-christians religions, non exeed even 2% of thenational population; nonetheless, given the large size of this country, these religions still have millions of adherents. summarize the data above from a statistic point of view.

Americans ages 18 to 29 are considered to be less religious than older Americans. According to recent studies by the Pew Forum on Religion \& Public Life, fewer young adults are affiliated with a specific religion than older people today. And, compared with their elders, fewer young people say that religion is very important in their lives. Yet, many young people still believe in traditional religious concepts and practices. Pew Research Center surveys show, for example, that "young adults' beliefs about life after death and the existence of heaven, hell and miracles closely resemble the beliefs of older people today." According to GSS (General Social Survey) results from a random sample of 1,679 subjects, $45 \%$ in the $18-29$ age group pray daily whereas $55 \%$ pray less often. $^{5}$ The MINITAB output shows the results for a significance test for which the alternative hypothesis is that the percentage of $18-29$ -year-olds who pray daily differs from $50 \%$. State and interpret the five steps of a significance test in this context, using information shown in the output to provide the particular values for the hypothesis, test statistic, and P-value.
