What happens during the termination step of DNA transcription? The mRNA detaches from the RNA polymerase as the RNA polymerase leaves the DNA strand. A ribosome attaches to the initiation codon of a completed mRNA strand. RNA polymerase moves along the template strand of the DNA creating an mRNA strand. A portion of the DNA unwinds and RNA polymerase attaches to the DNA within the transcription bubble.

Step 1
The first step in this process is the unwinding of a portion of the DNA. This is facilitated by the enzyme helicase, which breaks the hydrogen bonds between the base pairs, allowing the two strands to separate. This creates what is known as the transcription Show more…

What happens after mRNA is transcribed? mRNA becomes part of the nucleolus. mRNA enters the cytoplasm and moves to a ribosome. mRNA leaves the cytoplasm through the cell membrane. mRNA remains in the nucleus and creates a protein
