What is an electric field?
The concept of electric field due to charge q is parallel to the concept of gravitational field due to mass m. The fundamental unit of electric charge is 1.6x10^-19 Coulombs (C). The units in which electric field is measured are Newtons per Coulomb (N/C). The direction of the electric field is from high value to low value of the electric field. The definition given in (Q 4) above also applies to electric fields generated by negative charge.
