During the process of electrophoresis, the agarose gel functions like a molecular sieve, separating the samples according to their size.
Agarose is the dried powder needed to make the gel. Buffer is the salt solution added to the powder to make the gel and allows electric current to run through it. We use the microwave to heat up the gel solution. The melted gel solution is poured into gel mold. The purpose of the gel comb is to leave empty wells for the DNA samples. You need to place the gel in the electrophoresis submerged in. You need to add blue to the sample before you load it onto the gel. The contains DNA strands of known lengths so you can figure out the size of your DNA sample. The wells are closest to the (black or red) cord. We (can or cannot) see the DNA running through the gel. A chemical called is used to stain the DNA so that we can see large groups of it.
