What are the major differences between spongy bone and compact bone?
Please Compact and spongy bone have the same cells and extracellular matrix, but differ in the 3D arrangement of tissue and blood vessels. In compact bone, osteocytes are arranged in three types of layers (lamellae) and nourished through three types of canals (highways for blood vessels). In contrast, in spongy bone, lamellae are often not present, and blood vessels travel between trabeculae, rather than through bony canals.
