What is the main reason for there being both a leading strand and a lagging strand during DNA replication? Group of answer choices Only one template strand is available to read at any given time DNA polymerase can only read the template strand in the 3' to 5' direction There is only one origin of replication on one strand at a time There are not enough RNA primers to have both strands be synthesized simultaneously

What is the reason why DNA replication produces a leading strand and a lagging strand, synthesized in a slightly different manner? DNA helicase can only unwind the DNA double helix in one direction. RNA primers must be used to begin the process of DNA replication. DNA polymerase can only add nucleotides to the 3' end of the growing strand. RNA polymerase can only synthesize mRNA in the 5' to 3' direction.

Why is there a leading strand and a lagging strand during DNA replication?
Madhur L.
During replication of a DNA molecule, the leading strand is made toward the replication fork while the lagging strand is made in fragments in the opposite direction. What is the reason for this difference in the synthesis of the two strands? DNA polymerase is not efficient enough to make two good strands of DNA. The two template strands are antiparallel, and DNA polymerase only makes DNA in the 5' to 3' direction. The lagging strand is the result of DNA breakage due to UV light. The cell does not contain enough nucleotides to make two complete strands.
