00:01 Okay, in order to answer this question, let's state why viruses are not considered living organisms.
00:08 Okay, first remember that the structure of a virus is going to have a genetic material, okay? it is going to have also, which is going to be the capsid, okay, the capsid.
00:19 And some of them have an envelope that is made of the cell membrane, they invade.
00:26 Okay, and well, they are going to have also some enzymes here and like proteins on the cell.
00:31 Surface, but this is a general structure, a genetic material or a genome that can be rna or dna, a capsid, and well, envelop sometimes.
00:43 So what properties or what characteristics of viruses does not make them living organisms? well, the first one is going to be that viruses are not made out of cells.
00:56 Okay, so they don't have cells because, and well, this is why it is because they don't have organelles, okay? they just only have a capsule and a genome, okay? they don't have a nucleus, a ribosone, they don't have any of that.
01:12 So, practically, they can't keep themselves in a stable state, homeostasis, because this is achieved by many cells organelles.
01:22 Okay? and obviously they are not going to grow because they don't have the machinery or the same machinery to replicate themselves.
01:31 Another characteristic of this is that viruses cannot make their own energy or reproduce on their own.
01:38 Okay, and particularly they are going to require a host, like humans, for example, or animals, okay? so they can make atp or their own atp without the use of a host, okay? because they don't have a mitochondria, for example, or enzymes to, or they can, like, get nutrients for them, for, from their environment in order to do metabolism.
02:03 And another characteristic is that even though they have different levels of organization and adapt to their environment, viruses are more like like robots than living organisms.
02:17 They are like fake cells, even when they don't have like organelles or metabolic activity...
