Structure: The structure of a tooth is composed of different parts. The crown is the visible part of the tooth that is covered by enamel, which is the hardest substance in the human body. The root is the part of the tooth that is embedded in the jawbone. It is covered by cementum and is responsible for anchoring the tooth in place. The neck is the area where the crown and root meet. Dentition: Human dentition is considered as thecodont, diphydont, and heterodont. Thecodont: Thecodont dentition refers to the way in which the teeth are attached to the jawbone. In thecodont dentition, the teeth are firmly attached to the sockets in the jawbone. This provides stability and strength to the teeth. Diphydont: Diphydont dentition refers to the fact that humans have two sets of teeth in their lifetime. The first set of teeth, known as primary or deciduous teeth, start to erupt around the age of 6 months and are eventually replaced by the permanent teeth. The permanent teeth, also known as secondary teeth, start to erupt around the age of 6 years. Heterodont: Heterodont dentition refers to the different types of teeth that humans have. In human dentition, there are four different types of teeth: incisors, canines, premolars, and molars. Each type of tooth has a specific shape and function. Incisors are used for cutting, canines are used for tearing, premolars are used for grinding, and molars are used for crushing and grinding food.
