Life span development is a fairly new concept. For many years, child psychology was studied, but it was assumed that most, if not all, of one's important development, had occurred by the beginning of early adulthood. In other words, psychologists believed that the major changes associated with aging were completed by the end of adolescence. Why do you think psychologists are now studying the entire life span? How does the realization that significant events occur throughout our lives affect our lives in general? What scientific methodologies and research designs are commonly used in life span psychology?
