What would happen if a mutation inactivated the ability of poly-A polymerase (PAP) to add a stretch of adenine nucleotides to the 3' end of a cleaved mRNA transcript? The polyadenylation factors would not be able to cleave the nascent mRNA transcript. RNA Pol II would not recognize the end of the gene and transcription would fail to be terminated. The ribosome would be unable to bind to and initiate translation from the 3' end of the transcript. The poly A binding proteins would not be bound and the transcript would be quickly degraded by cellular nucleases

What would be the outcome of a mutation that prevented DNA binding proteins from being produced? a. decreased transcription because transcription factors would not bind to transcription binding sites b. decreased transcription because enhancers would not be able to bind to transcription factors c. increased transcription because repressors would not be able to bind to promoter regions d. increased transcription because RNA polymerase would be able to increase binding to promoter regions

If a deletion occurs in a gene that encodes DNA polymerase I and no functional DNA polymerase I is produced. What will be the most likely consequence of this mutation? There would be no DNA replication on the leading or lagging strands. The DNA would not exist in a supercoiled state. There would be no RNA primers laid down. There would be no RNA primers laid down. The DNA strands would contain pieces of RNA.

What would happen if, in the course of replication, the topoisomerases were unable to reattach the DNA fragments of each strand after unwinding (relaxing) the DNA molecule?
