In order for sodium chloride to dissolve in water, a small amount of energy must be added during solution formation. This is not energetically favorable. Why is NaCl so soluble in water?
If solid sodium chloride is added to a saturated aqueous solution of sodium chloride, the total dissolved solids concentration of the solution will increase. The cation concentration of the solution will increase. Both the anion and cation concentrations of the solution will decrease.
