Question

When using a production function to estimate potential output: Provides useful information on the contribution of consumption, investment, and government spending to any downturn in activity. It is important to take into account capital utilization rates. Provides useful information on the contribution of capital, labor, and TFP to any downturn in activity. Is equivalent to using a Hodrick-Prescott filter, so it is not worth the effort.

Please help with this question (please do not answer if it is incomplete) Think about the firm or industry in which you work (or would like to work). Choose a possible production function for this firm or a firm in that industry. Be sure to tell us what formula you have chosen and give some justification for why you are choosing it. Use only labor and capital as the inputs for the production function. Assuming the wage rate is 10 and rental rate of capital is 20, tell us how much labor and much capital your firm would use in this situation. It may help to assume some level of desired output as well.

production-the-production-function-for-another-country-is-zx08-y02-where-x-stands-for-units-of-labor

Production The production function for another country is $$z=x^{0.8} y^{0.2}$$ where x stands for units of labor and y for units of capital. At present, 20 units of labor and 18 units of capital are being provided. Use differentials to estimate the change in production if an additional unit of labor is provided and if capital is decreased to 16 units.

Assume that both labor and capital exhibit diminishing returns. Suppose you can hire an additional unit of labor for $10, and she can product 50 units. You could also buy an additional machine at the cost of $200, and that machine would allow you to produce 1000 units. If your main concern is minimizing average cost, what should you do?a. There is not enough information to say.b. Hire more labor, because it is cheaper.c. Nothing, because you are already minimizing costd. Buy the machine, because it will allow you to produce more.
