Which example represents negative feedback to a drop in blood pressure? Dilating blood vessels lowers the resistance to blood flow and makes it easier for the heart to pump blood through the circulatory system. This decreases blood pressure. Constricting blood vessels increases the resistance to blood flow and the heart must work harder to move blood through the circulatory system. This increases blood pressure. Heart rate is decreased, which leads to a lowering of blood pressure. When transitioning from lying or sitting to standing, blood redistributes to prevent a drop in blood pressure.

Homeostatic Feedback loop: Vasoconstriction and Vasodilation Vasoconstriction is the constriction or tightening of blood vessels. It keeps blood towards the warm core and away from extremities (this is why your hands and feet feel numb in cold weather). Vasodilation is the dilation or widening of blood vessels. Blood spreads out into the extremities so that heat can be released to maintain normal body temperature. For example, elephants' ears contain many blood vessels and have a large surface area/low volume. During vasodilation, they can release a lot of body heat through their ears. Check-in: in this diagram: What is the set point? What are the stimuli? What is the sensor? What are the responses?

Click on all of the true statements about blood pressure. Increasing blood volume decreases blood pressure. Decreasing heart rate decreases blood pressure. Blood pressure decreases with distance from the heart. Low blood pressure can cause health problems. Pressure receptors in artery walls detect blood pressure. Vasodilation increases blood pressure.
