What are the different types of aphasia syndromes?
Emily H.
3.Case study A: John, a 58-year-old accountant, suffered a severe stroke affecting some part of his brain. This condition severely impaired his ability to speak, understand language, read, and write. Once an articulate and sociable individual, John now struggles to communicate even basic needs, leading to immense frustration and isolation. Despite extensive speech therapy, progress is slow, with minor improvements in comprehension and expressive language. Case study B: Mary, a 42-year-old graphic designer, experienced a brain injury in a car accident. Despite intact comprehension and fluency, she struggles to recall names of objects, causing frustration. In conversations, she often pauses or substitutes words, affecting her confidence and social interactions. Although her overall communication remains functional, the difficulty in naming objects impacts her professional and personal life. Based on the above case studies, explain the language impairment that experienced by John and Mary. (10 marks)
