Which of the statements below about evolution is FALSE? According to evolutionary thinking, all life forms on Earth share basic similarities because of their shared common ancestry. As generations of time pass, inherited characteristics that help organisms produce offspring become more common within a population, and characteristics that reduce reproduction become less common. Natural Selection is a slow but steady process of improving species. Through it, populations are constantly becoming better-adapted to survive. When this process is completed for all populations (and species), evolution will be complete. Natural Selection helps explain how groups of organisms become well- suited - or adapted - to their changing environments.

Which of the following statements regarding evolution is FALSE? Select one: Evolution can be described as 'descent with modification.' Individuals cannot evolve. Natural selection acts on the traits of individual organisms. Natural selection is only one of several mechanisms for evolution. Mutations are usually neutral or harmful.

Which of the following statements regarding evolution is true? It must occur, due to organisms' innate desire to survive. It always occurs when there is no genetic variation in the population. It requires the operation of natural selection. It can happen whenever any of the conditions for Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium are not met. It always makes populations become better suited to their environments.
