Based on Henry Murray's work within the psychoanalytic perspective, David McClelland proposed that people have three primary motivations: achievement, affiliation, and power. Using a humanistic framework, Edward Deci and Richard Ryan proposed self-determination theory, also suggesting that people have three basic motivations: autonomy, competence, and relatedness. - In what ways are the three types of motivations proposed by McClelland similar to those proposed by Deci and Ryan?
