Cryptocurrencies saw a huge increase in price between the beginning and end of 2017 due in large part to a speculative bubble. It can be useful to think of cryptocurrencies as foreign currencies. For the sake of this question, assume that all cryptocurrencies are converted to Bitcoin before being exchanged for domestic currencies (this means that you can think of "cryptocurrencies" as a single type of foreign currency). a) (5 points) What would happen to the price of cryptocurrencies if large retailers like Amazon, Walmart, and Alibaba begin to accept cryptocurrencies for payment? Why? b) (5 points) Assume that before large retailers began to accept cryptocurrencies, they were being used mainly for nefarious activities. What do you think would happen to the real price of those nefarious activities after large retailers begin to accept cryptocurrencies?

Recently a cybercriminal sent $10,000 worth of cryptocurrency to an online charity. The charity that received the donation could not return the cryptocurrency because the cryptocurrency transaction was masked to make it impossible to return. What should the charity do? Should the charity accept the money? If not, what should they do with the cryptocurrency since it cannot be returned? Who should they in turn give it to? And what would be the motivation for an attacker to do this? Are they trying to appear as something more than a "common" cyberthief? Go to the discussion feature of the Learning Management System (LMS) used by your school or organization and post a discussion (minimum of 100 words) of your thoughts about the questions above regarding attackers contributing to charities. Then respond to two of your classmates's threads with posts of at least 50 words discussing their comments and ideas. Try to ask open-ended questions and encourage discussion. Remember to respond to other students who post on your thread. Be sure to use complete sentences and check your grammar, spelling, and punctuation before making a submission.

Exchange rate 5.1: Speculate about why buying bitcoins in person is generally more expensive than buying from an online exchange. 5.2: Moore and Christin observe that security breaches and other failures of exchanges have little impact on the Bitcoin exchange rate. Speculate on why this might be.
