Why do EPROMs have a window, while EEPROMs do not have a window? What is the window used for?

The window, usually made of quartz, allows UV light to pass through and reach the memory cells inside the chip. When exposed to UV light for a certain period, the data in the EPROM is erased, and the chip can be reprogrammed. Show more…
