Working with another group, link the two amino acids together. To do this, remove the -OH group (with its spring) from one of the amino acids and one of the H atoms (leaving behind the spring) from the nitrogen on the other amino acid. Put the spring end of that amino acid into the hole on the carbon of the first amino acid. You have created a dipeptide (two amino acids bonded together)! If you were to continue adding amino acids, you would eventually form a polypeptide chain. Which molecule is formed from the atoms you removed? Why is this type of reaction called a dehydration reaction or condensation reaction?
