Part of a polyacrylamide gel is shown below. A mixture of four proteins is loaded into only the first well of this gel. The molecular weights of the proteins in the mixture are 5,000, 12,000, 28,000 and 77,000 Daltons.
Assume that prior to loading, protein denaturing solution was added to the mixture and the sample was boiled.
In this gel:
- Label the cathode and anode ends
- Under the first well, draw how the protein bands would appear after electrophoresis has ended and the gel has been stained with Coomassie Blue
- Label each protein band with its corresponding molecular weight. Don't forget the units!
