So the first type of transport is passive transport.

This is super important because it requires no energy and the solute always travels from a high concentration to a low concentration.

There are three types of passive transport.

The first one is when a group of molecules just goes through the membrane from high to low.

This is called diffusion.

The second one is when that same group of molecules can't just go right through the membrane, it has to use a protein channel.

When this happens, this is called facilitated diffusion, because the protein channel facilitates the diffusion.
