Assertion: ELISA is used to detect infection by pathogen, that can be detected by the presence of antigens or by detecting the antibodies synthesized against the pathogen. Reason: ELISA is based on the principle of anitgen-antibody interaction.
In an indirect ELISA assay, which is the capture molecule, antigen or antibody? Why?
ELISA is a technique used to identify proteins needed for the growth of pathogens inside a host. Pathogen proteins are fused to a reporter, such as GFP, and then screened for growth inside the host. This technique can detect and estimate the concentration of a protein by reacting with a primary antibody and then reacting with a secondary antibody containing a detection system. The use of patient's serum is used to identify antibodies that are useful against various infectious diseases. Mechanical separation of mixtures of cells is based on their surface antigens. Antibodies with different fluorescent labels are used in the separation. Methods are used to count and measure various kinds of cells by using fluorescently-labeled antibodies.
