All right, what makes sponge digestion unique? most organisms that have internal digestion have a mouth that will take in food and will then break down that food into smaller parts so that nutrients can then be taken from it.
00:25
Well, sponges do things a little differently.
00:28
So here i have the general outline of a sponge.
00:31
All right.
00:32
And so what will happen is a sponge will be in water, and water will come down into this cavity.
00:39
And sponges have these little cells called coanocytes.
00:42
And these coanocytes on them are these things called flagella.
00:48
And flagella are specialized molecules used for movement.
00:52
And so these little flagella will move the water through the canal or the cavity.
00:58
And as this water moves to the cavity, nutrients from the water will stick to the wall of the sponge...
