Uterine Transport

Uterine transport refers to the movement of the oocyte, or fertilized egg if fertilization occurs, from the fallopian tube into the uterine cavity. This movement is facilitated by coordinated muscular contractions and ciliary motions, ultimately preparing the egg for possible implantation within the uterine lining.

Fallopian Tubes

The fallopian tubes, also known as oviducts, provide the passageway for the oocyte once it is released from the ovary. The infundibulum of the tube, equipped with finger-like projections, directs the oocyte into the tube, where it is carried along by ciliary action and muscular contractions, and it is typically within the ampulla of the tube that fertilization may occur.

Ovulation

Ovulation is the phase in the menstrual cycle during which a mature oocyte is released from the dominant ovarian follicle. The rupture of the follicle allows the mature oocyte to be captured by surrounding structures and prepares it for subsequent transport.

Oogenesis

Oogenesis is the process by which oocytes are produced in the ovaries. This developmental process involves the maturation of the primary oocyte within ovarian follicles, which undergoes meiosis to eventually form a mature egg, setting the stage for potential fertilization.
