Root extends down and there are these little root hairs okay now in the root in the plant there are hydrogen ions floating about and these hydrogen and there's also co2 and these hydrogen can be released and you can have a fair and equal trade but when we're talking about cat ion exchange more specifically we're going to look at that co2 so co2 is released into the soil and it mixes with a little bit of water and that will give us carbonic acid in the soil.
