Anterior Pituitary Gland

The anterior pituitary, or adenohypophysis, is an endocrine gland that synthesizes and secretes a suite of hormones in response to hypothalamic signals delivered via the portal blood system. Hypothalamus

The hypothalamus is a key brain region that integrates neural and endocrine functions to maintain homeostasis. It produces and secretes releasing and inhibiting hormones that regulate the activity of the pituitary gland, thereby controlling many physiological processes such as stress response, growth, reproduction, and water balance.

Hypothalamic-Pituitary Connection

The connection between the hypothalamus and the pituitary gland is fundamental to the neuroendocrine system. The hypothalamus communicates with the anterior pituitary through a specialized vascular network known as the hypophyseal portal system, which transports releasing and inhibiting hormones directly. Posterior Pituitary Gland

The posterior pituitary, or neurohypophysis, stores and releases hormones that are synthesized in the hypothalamus.
