00:01
Let's talk about groundwater depletion.
00:03
So irrigation is depleting aquifers due to just over irrigation.
00:11
We're using a lot of that groundwater for crops.
00:14
As a result, we are not allowing that groundwater to replenish.
00:19
And so harvest are decreasing.
00:21
We're trying to dig wells deeper.
00:24
So especially right now, the withdrawal of groundwater has surpassed the aquifers rate of replenishing itself.
00:34
So what are some consequences that we can look at and how can we help alleviate this problem? so like i said in an earlier video, it is, it's very much like a bank.
00:48
If you are constantly taking out and not putting in or not putting more in that you have taken out over time, it's going to be gone.
01:00
Same thing with water.
01:02
Water can be a finite resource if we don't use it properly.
01:08
So we know through the water cycle, you know, rain falls, water is absorbed into the ground stored in aquifer or in a lake or stream, and then evaporation brings that back up.
01:20
And in the atmosphere, cycle repeats all over again.
01:24
So if, again, if we don't allow that groundwater to replenish itself, sometimes the water is block from getting back to the ground or many other circumstances.
01:38
So consequences are going to be dire for humans.
01:42
If we don't allow these aquifers to replenish, if we keep interrupting that water cycle, it is not going to be good.
01:49
Without water, we have nothing.
01:52
It's been posed in many classes before.
01:55
If we don't have water, what are we going to drink? and people say, well, juice.
02:00
Well, we can't have juice without water because you need water to help those plants grow.
02:04
We're going to have a decrease in crops.
02:07
We're going to have a decrease in aquatic life.
02:10
It's just, it is going to be disastrous if we do not have this water.
02:16
So let's focus on things we can do instead to help from depleting this water supply.
02:26
So one thing we can do is go native.
02:29
Go native.
02:34
Native.
02:35
Let's see if the stylist cooperates.
02:40
Go native.
02:42
So what does that mean? we can grow crops that are suitable for the area they're being grown in.
02:49
Like we don't want to grow cotton in the desert...
