All right, so this question is asking us some more true or false questions, making some more true or false statements about the parts of the atoms.
00:13
So we're going to go through those one by one.
00:16
So i've drawn this table here, and if you've seen any of my previous videos from this chapter, then you've probably seen this table before, showing that the charge of the proton is positive, charge of the neutron is negative, charge of the electron.
00:29
The neutron is neutral.
00:31
Neutral, that symbol means neutral.
00:32
And the charge of the electron is negative, etc.
00:37
We talk about the size, large or small, the location, whether it's in the nucleus or in the shell.
00:43
And so if we look at these statements, the first question is asking, is a proton attracted to electrons? so true or false, a proton is attracted to electron.
00:53
Well, in the last video, i kind of described it this way.
00:57
Think about a proton as the north side of a magnet and the electron is the south side.
01:04
And the neutron is a piece of wood.
01:07
So the proton being the north side and the electron being the south side, yes, those are going to be attracted together.
01:13
Positives and negatives are going to attract.
01:16
Opposites attract, right? so that one is true.
01:21
It is true that protons are going to attract electrons.
01:26
Number two says a neutron has twice the mass of a protein.
01:32
Okay, well, if we look at the sizes, we see the proton is large, the neutron is large, the electron is small.
01:40
That doesn't immediately tell us that the neutron is larger or smaller than the proton, and certainly doesn't tell us whether or not it is twice the size.
01:50
So based on this table, there isn't really enough information to totally answer this question, but what i'm going to tell you is that protons and neutrons are very close to the same size...
