Hi everyone, in this short video, we are going to look at the purpose of a control group.
00:06
So first of all, what is a control group? so it's a part of the experimental process, and it is the group with no independent variable.
00:23
So what does this actually mean? so we are going to use an example of an experiment where we are looking at the impact of a medication.
00:32
I'm just going to abbreviate that med, on a cold.
00:36
Now, to know the impact, we have to have a group that has the medicine and a group without the medicine.
00:43
Otherwise, we have nothing to compare it to.
00:45
So group a is going to have no medicine.
00:51
So no medicine.
00:53
And group b is going to have the medicine.
00:57
So group a is going to be the control group because they have no independent variable.
01:04
And the independent variable in this case is the medicine.
01:07
Group b is going to be the experimental group because they do have the independent variable.
01:20
Perfect.
01:22
So now let's look at some purposes of a control group.
01:28
So as kind of previously stated, you can compare the results of an experimental group to determine the effect of the variable...
