What's up, stat katz? my name is erin, and in this video we're going to be talking about characteristics of the f distribution.
00:09
The first characteristic we're going to talk about is values of f cannot be negative because variances are always positive or zero.
00:29
So when you look at the f formula, your variances are always going to be positive or negative.
00:37
So take any positive value divided by any smaller positive value, and your f value is always going to be positive.
00:48
The next characteristic we're going to talk about is the distribution is positively skewed, and that goes back to this first characteristic of your f value always being positive.
01:02
You know, it cannot be negative.
01:05
So if you look at the shape of the distribution, you can see that the majority of our values are going to be around 1, and there's not even any negative values on this f distribution, because f is never negative.
01:28
The next characteristic we're going to talk about is the mean value of f is approximately equal to 1.
01:36
It's never negative.
01:38
And that also just goes back to our formula.
01:41
Remember, larger variance on top, smaller variance on the bottom...
