Hey guys, and welcome to another economics example where we're going to be talking some more about economic growth.
00:07
So for this example, we've got to have kind of an open -ended question that we'll talk about a little bit, and that is, will other countries overtake the u .s.
00:18
In terms of gdp per capita? so the reason that you asked this is because, you know, in the past half century, a lot of lower -eastern.
00:34
Income countries like china, what used to be, you know, japan before now, south korea, taiwan, i think even india is having a gdp growth rate boom right now.
00:50
But they all have had, like, you know, massive gdp growth rates for quite a while.
00:57
So then, you know, you have the question of will they eventually overtake the u .s.
01:03
And, as with a lot of stuff in economics, this is not exactly a black and white question.
01:14
So the quick answer is maybe.
01:18
You have two sides.
01:19
You've got a yes and a no.
01:20
And it really comes down to convergence.
01:28
That is not how you spell convergence.
01:30
It comes down to convergence and whether or not it's actually happening.
01:36
So the reason a lot of these countries have had explosions in gdp growth rate is because they've gone through their own mini industrial revolutions.
01:47
And it happens so fast because they don't have to start from scratch like a lot of the now high income countries had to do during the industrial revolution...
