Welcome to the video and today we're going to be talking about hypothesis tests and specifically how to determine whether or not the evidence we're given sufficiently supports our claim.

Now in this problem we have researchers investigating the proportion of young women who smoke out of concern for their weight.

It is proposed that 30 % of young women smoke to stay thin so we can transatlantic.

And it is suspected that this proportion is actually greater than what is claimed.

So we can translate that into an alternative hypothesis of x is greater than 0 .5.

And we want to test, we want to do a test at the 5 % alpha level, so we can set alpha right here.

And to test these claims, these researchers surveyed 273 young women, and they found that 63 of them said, yes, they do smoke to stay thin.

And this translates to about 23%.
