All right.
00:01
This is a big data set we got to look at, north valley real estate data.
00:08
They recorded homes sold during a year, and they've got a huge data set, which will see in a second.
00:14
They want to prepare a report on the selling prices of homes based on the answers to these questions down here.
00:23
So we wanted to make a box plot, and we've got that.
00:29
We need the numbers to do that, so we need the max, the median, the median.
00:37
First quartile, third quartile, and here's where they are.
00:40
And i use the formulas from the tax rate, take the percentile, to find the first quartile, it's the number of items plus one times the .25 is the first, and 0 .75 is the second, is the third.
00:57
Anyway, these are the values you get.
01:01
About 167 ,000 for the men, 238 ,000 for the first quartile, 3233 ,000.
01:07
For the median almost 400 ,000 for the third quartile, and then the max is nine, almost 920 ,000.
01:19
So you had to do some kind of work with a larger data set.
01:25
And then i just wanted to show you a little, not trick, but a nice little way to help look at the data.
01:30
So when you have the data in your spreadsheet, you're going to see something like this.
01:33
If you scroll down, what i find is i forget which, which, what each column represents.
01:43
So there's a nice little trick that most spreadsheet programs have.
01:48
Like in this one for google sheets, you go to freeze row, one row, just highlight the thing you want to freeze.
01:54
And it's handy because then as you scroll down, that row, which contains the headings for each value is fixed.
02:01
So you remember this is your price column.
02:04
So there we go.
02:05
So there's the box plot.
02:08
And the max is this value, but we do find there are some outliers.
02:13
Outliers and there's all these ones here starting at about a little over 60 650 ,000 so i believe i've sorted it by price so i have so right about here these ones rows right because the max goes to just over 550 so that means the fence was right around here at the six well let's find the upper fence that was let's see what is that that's the it's q3, the third quartile, plus 1 .5 times the inner quartile range.
02:59
So it's that value minus...
