Reproductive isolation is simply speaking barriers that prevent different species from being able to interbreed and produce healthy fertile offspring.

These barriers can be split into two categories, prezygotic and post -zygotic.

So an example of pre -zygotic barriers could be habitat isolation.

So a species of dog on one continent is more than likely never going to meet another species of dog on another continent or island.
