Second Messenger Cascades

Activated G proteins often regulate effector enzymes, such as adenylyl cyclase or phospholipase C, which catalyze the formation of second messengers. GPCR Signal Amplification

This concept refers to the biological mechanism by which a small number of activated receptors initiates a powerful cellular response. In G protein coupled receptor (GPCR) signaling, amplification occurs because a single ligand binding event can trigger a cascade of molecular interactions that yield a much larger final output compared to the initial stimulus.

G Protein Activation and Cycling
