00:05
So today, we're going to be going over problem number five in chapter seven, memory.
00:15
And what we're going to be talking about today is something called consolidation.
00:21
Now, consolidation is actually not related to forgetting in any way, but it's really important when we're talking about memory.
00:28
So i'm going to take you through kind of the process of creating memory in different memory stores and how that essentially goes about.
00:37
So the first type of memory or our first memory store is called sensory memory.
00:45
Or some people call this sensory information, essentially sensory memory.
00:51
So our sensory memory store lasts only about 500 milliseconds.
00:59
And it's essentially when we first see a stimulus in the environment or when we first hear a stimulus.
01:05
That stimulus is actually stored in our sensory memory, like i said, for about 500 milliseconds.
01:14
So our next memory store is called short -term memory.
01:30
So items in short -term memory actually traveled there from sensory memory.
01:36
And the process of getting information from sensory memory to short -term memory is through paying attention.
01:45
So when we direct our focus from or to a stimulus in the environment, we can transfer that from sensory memory to our short -term memory.
02:03
And short -term memory for a specific stimulus usually lasts between 15 to 30 seconds.
02:20
And the capacity of short -term memory is around seven items...
