Hello everyone.
00:04
Today we're going to talk about some rules about energy.
00:07
The first rule in energy is the first law of thermodynamics, stating energy cannot be created or destroyed.
00:15
So this may leave you wondering, if energy can't be made or destroyed, what happens in chemical reactions? well, energy actually changes forms.
00:36
Okay.
00:37
So some examples, when you eat food, food is actually a good.
00:44
Source of stored energy, and then your body breaks it down to make atp, which is usable energy.
01:01
When you are sitting around doing nothing, you have a lot of potential energy in your body.
01:12
Or rather, when a better example would be like a spring.
01:17
When you squeeze a spring as tight as you can, it has a lot of potential energy.
01:21
But then when you release it and it starts moving, that gets turned into kinetic energy.
01:29
There's also an example of plants.
01:31
It's taken light energy from the sun, and then they use that to make sugars, which again is a form of stored energy.
01:47
Okay? so even though the energy is not being created or added to any chemical reaction, and it's not being destroyed or taken away, it's simply just changing its forms...
